Discover Val Canali

Val Canali

A valley in Trentino

The Val Canali is one of those places that, once discovered, stays in your heart. Just a few minutes from Tonadico, it opens up like a great embrace of forests, meadows, and towering peaks that seem to watch over it in silence. The Canali Stream flows through it, clear and lively, accompanying the landscape with its constant murmur.

All around, the Pale di San Martino reveal themselves in one of their most captivating views: Cima Canali, Cima Wilma, Cima Pradidali, and many others rise proudly above the valley.

This is a land to experience at a slow pace, just a few kilometers from Fiera di Primiero, Transacqua, Siror, Mezzano (one of the most beautiful villages in Italy), and San Martino di Castrozza.

From June to September

The Val Canali in summer.

Summer in Val Canali is made up of small gestures that reconnect you with nature: a walk among the fir trees, a dive into the meadows, the banks of the Canali stream.

You can start your day with a peaceful walk to Malga Canali, passing streams and old farmhouses, or follow your desire to climb a bit higher, perhaps up to Rifugio Treviso, for a lunch with a view of the Pale di San Martino.

If you’re arriving by motorbike, you’re in the right place: Val Canali is a peaceful, scenic detour—perfect for a refreshing stop between one Dolomite pass and the next. And if you want to explore the surroundings on foot or by bike, you’ll find spectacular routes such as Passo Rolle, Passo Cereda, or the road leading to San Martino di Castrozza.

From October to December

Autumn in Val Canali

Autumn in Val Canali is synonymous with foliage, best experienced at a slow pace, walking among larches and firs that glow with golden colors under the afternoon sun.

One of the most enchanting walks at this time of year is the loop from Villa Welsperg to the small lake and botanical garden, a gentle route suitable for everyone. In the surrounding area, you can also gather chestnuts (where permitted), search for mushrooms along the trail edges, and, with a bit of luck, hear the roar of the deer.

Just a few kilometers away, in the villages of Primiero, you might come across traditional festivals like the Desmontegada, with decorated cows, local flavors, folk music, and artisan markets. And if you love photography, the little wooden bridge over the Canali stream is one of the most picturesque spots in the valley.

From January to March

Val Canali in the snow during winter

In winter, Val Canali is dressed in white. Strap on your snowshoes and follow the trail leading to Col dei Cistri, a quiet, little-traveled forest road. Alternatively, you can head up to Piereni, where loop trails wind through the forest.

If you want to ski, just a 15–20 minute drive will take you to the slopes of San Martino di Castrozza and Passo Rolle in the Dolomiti SuperSki circuit, offering runs for all levels and spectacular views. If you prefer cross-country skiing, you can reach the Passo Cereda loop, one of the most popular in the area, or the Imer Nordic center, just a few kilometers away.

After a day of activity, returning to the campsite becomes even more special: a moment of relaxation with a hot drink and a session in our forest sauna, the perfect way to end the day beautifully.

From April to June

Primavera in Val Canali

When the snow melts and nature awakens in spring, we recommend some enchanting walks in Val Canali: the meadows of Fosne-Tais, the Piereni area, and the charming Malga Canali. These scenic, easily accessible routes take you through forests, meadows, and unforgettable Dolomite vistas.

n May, the nearby Villa Welsperg (headquarters of the Paneveggio – Pale di San Martino Nature Park) often hosts springtime events: botanical outings, workshops for children, days dedicated to birdwatching, or nature photography.

And why not explore Val Canali on one of our e‑bikes? You can start right from the campsite and ride along the Valle del Primiero cycle path, a well-maintained 11 km route connecting the villages of Imer, Mezzano, Transacqua, Tonadico, Siror, and Fiera di Primiero, passing through forests, streams, and breathtaking Dolomite scenery.

Val Canali for families

Val Canali is the perfect place for a family holiday: safe, peaceful, and full of experiences. In winter, fun awaits with sledding on the snow-covered meadows near the campsite or in the designated areas at Passo Cereda.

In spring and summer, you can explore simple yet engaging trails, such as the new Muse Fedaie route, which winds through small wooden bridges, play areas, and interactive panels dedicated to the biodiversity of Val Canali.

Days can be enriched with a visit to nearby villages like Mezzano or Tonadico, true open-air museums. And if you want to add a touch of adventure, in the nearby Val Noana you can experience canyoning with expert guides, navigating natural slides, jumps, and crystal-clear waters.

Near Val Canali

Primiero Valley

Around Val Canali, the entire Primiero Valley awaits to be discovered: a compact yet incredibly rich area, where every corner tells of a deep connection with the Dolomites.

To the north, the Pale di San Martino rise majestically, dominating the landscape with their dramatic vertical cliffs, while to the east stretch the slopes of the Lagorai, wilder and quieter.

The valley floor is carved by the Cismon stream, flowing through clearings, wooden bridges, and accessible trails—perfect for walking or e‑biking. And then there’s Val Noana, more hidden and serene, with its lake nestled among rocks and forests. From here, gentle walks or wilder trails lead toward Malga Noana and Vette Feltrine.

San Martino di Castrozza

Just a short distance from Val Canali, you’ll find San Martino di Castrozza, one of the most iconic destinations in the Dolomites. Nestled at the foot of the majestic Pale di San Martino, it’s where spectacular nature meets all the amenities for mountain lovers in every form.

From here, panoramic trails, via ferratas, lifts, and high-altitude biking and trekking routes begin. In winter, it becomes the heart of the San Martino–Passo Rolle ski area, with perfectly groomed slopes, ski schools, and mountain huts offering breathtaking views.

But even in summer, San Martino offers unforgettable experiences: a hike to Rifugio Rosetta, a stop at Laghetto Plank, or a day on the panoramic terrace of Alpe Tognola, reachable by cable car.
